Looking for water activities in Southwest Florida this week? Late October is a steady month for the water here: the Gulf is still in the low to mid-80s, the summer crowds are gone, and the kayak, paddleboard, and boat outfitters run year-round. This guide covers this week's best beaches, kayak and paddleboard rentals, boat tours, and what is next on the water-event calendar across Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Fort Myers, and Marco Island, with current water quality and beach advisories from the Florida Department of Health, FWC, and the National Weather Service.
Key Takeaways
- No beach water-quality advisory is documented for the Collier and Lee county beaches covered here as of the Florida Department of Health data updated October 17, 2026. Bonita Beach Park and Naples Pier both rated Good at their most recent sampling.
- Red tide is at background levels. FWC's October 16, 2026 update reported no fish kills and no respiratory irritation along the Gulf coast, with detections only offshore of Hillsborough and Sarasota counties.
- Gulf water temperatures are about 84 degrees near Naples and 83 to 85 near Fort Myers Beach, a degree or two above the October average, so swimming and paddling are comfortable.
- Four beaches are open year-round, from Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park in Naples to Tigertail Beach on Marco Island, with hours and parking costs below.
- No new boat show or paddle event is scheduled in the five-city area this week. The next one on the calendar is the Fort Myers Boat Show, November 12-15 at the downtown City Yacht Basin.
Water conditions this week
The Florida Department of Health samples Gulf beaches weekly through its Healthy Beaches program. As of the data updated October 17, 2026, no advisory is documented for the Southwest Florida beaches covered in this guide. The most recent samples in the area rated Good: Bonita Beach Park in Bonita Springs measured 10 enterococci per 100 mL on October 12, and Naples Pier measured 20 on its latest reading. The most recent advisory in the area, for Residents Beach on Marco Island in late September, was lifted September 25 after follow-up tests returned acceptable levels. Results are posted every week, so the DOH Healthy Beaches page for Collier County, the DOH Healthy Beaches page for Lee County, and the statewide Florida Healthy Beaches map are worth a check before you plan a swim day.
Red tide is quiet right now. FWC's red tide status update for October 16, 2026 reported the red tide organism Karenia brevis only at background concentrations in six samples, all offshore of Hillsborough and Sarasota counties, with no bloom-level readings off Lee or Collier and no fish kills or respiratory irritation reported. NOAA's Gulf coast harmful algal bloom forecast likewise shows no risk of respiratory irritation at this time.
Gulf water temperatures are holding near 84 degrees at Naples and 83 to 85 degrees at Fort Myers Beach, a degree or two above the October average, so swimming and paddling are comfortable. Rip current risk is low right now: the most recent National Weather Service surf-zone forecasts for both the Lee County coast and the Collier County coast called for low risk with surf of one foot or less. Those forecasts update daily, and conditions can shift, so check the NWS beach forecast for Florida for the day's surf-zone conditions before you head out. Boaters should note a small craft advisory covered area Gulf waters from October 17 into the early hours of October 20, with northeast winds and seas of six to nine feet, so it pays to check marine conditions if you are taking a boat out early in the week.
One heads-up for Naples: the Naples Pier is closed for a full rebuild that began in January 2026 and is expected to run about 18 months, with reopening targeted around July 2027. The beach beneath it stays open, so plan around it if you were counting on the pier. The City of Naples pier rebuild page has the project details.
Beaches for a fall swim
All of these beaches are open year-round. State parks charge entry per vehicle, and Collier County beaches charge daily parking unless you have a county beach parking sticker. Everyone is welcome at every one of these beaches; the parking and entry rules are the same for all visitors.
Naples: Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park
Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park on Gulfshore Drive is open daily from 8 AM to sundown. Parking is $6 per vehicle with up to eight people, $4 for a single-occupant vehicle, and $2 for pedestrians and cyclists. Since late September, entry fees are paid by card at self-service kiosks in the lot, so bring a card rather than cash. A maintenance dredge project at Wiggins Pass may cause temporary beach closures from time to time, so check the official hours and fees page before you go. The park sits in North Naples, an area covered in our Naples area guide.
Fort Myers Beach: Lovers Key State Park
Lovers Key State Park on Estero Boulevard is open daily from 8 AM to sundown. Parking is $8 per vehicle for two to eight people, $4 for a single-occupant vehicle and motorcycles, and $2 for pedestrians and cyclists. The Welcome and Discovery Center is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM to 2 PM. The official hours and fees page has the details, and the park's own rental concession rents kayaks, paddleboards, and beach chairs on site.
Bonita Springs: Barefoot Beach Preserve
Barefoot Beach Preserve on Barefoot Beach Boulevard is open from 8 AM to sunset year-round. Parking is $10 per day, paid by scanning the QR code on the lot signs, and free for vehicles with a Collier County beach parking sticker. It is a quieter, natural beach with a boardwalk through the dunes. The Friends of Barefoot Beach preserve page has more on the park. Bonita Springs is covered in our Bonita Springs area guide.
Marco Island: Tigertail Beach
Tigertail Beach on Hernando Drive is open year-round from sunrise to sundown. Parking is $10 per day at the pay station, free with a Collier County or City of Naples beach parking permit. The lagoon side is a favorite for families and shelling, and the sandbar on the Gulf side is a long walk but worth it. Note that the on-site concessions have been closed since Hurricane Ian, so pack what you need. The City of Marco Island beach access page lists the island's public beach access points. If you are weighing island life, our Marco Island area guide walks through the neighborhoods.

Some local sources note the vendor's availability has been intermittent at times during storm recovery, so call ahead to confirm on your date.
Bonita Springs: MCE Tours at Big Hickory Island
MCE Tours operates daily from 8 AM to 6 PM at Big Hickory Island off Bonita Beach Road, renting premium Hobie pedal kayaks, paddleboards, and clear kayaks with no booking fees, carbon fiber paddles, and safety gear included. The MCE Tours rentals page has the current rates.

The water-event calendar
No new boat show or organized water event is scheduled in the five-city area this week. The Marco Boat Show wrapped up October 18, and the next major on-water event is the Fort Myers Boat Show, Thursday through Sunday, November 12-15, 2026. It is the 54th annual edition and the largest in-water show on the Gulf side of Florida, with boats displayed at the downtown Fort Myers City Yacht Basin, in Centennial Park, and inside the Caloosa Sound Convention Center along the Caloosahatchee River. Hours are 10 AM to 6 PM Thursday through Saturday and 10 AM to 5 PM Sunday. General admission is $20, and parking is free with a shuttle from City of Palms Park. Details and tickets are on the Go Boating Florida Fort Myers Boat Show page.
This weekend's other headline event sits right on the water: the Naples Stone Crab Festival fills the Tin City marina Saturday and Sunday, October 24-25, with free admission and pay-as-you-go seafood. It is covered in this week's weekend guide for October 23-25.
